Chilliwack Landing Skate Park Renovations Complete September 20, 2017

Chilliwack, BC: The City of Chilliwack is pleased to announce that, with the support of the Western Economic Diversification Fund’s Canada 150 Community Infrastructure program, renovations to the Chilliwack Landing Skate Park are complete. Members of the public are invited to celebrate the grand opening of the Chilliwack Landing Skate Park on Friday, September 22.

Upon a successful bid for funding through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, the City of Chilliwack began work to update the skate park. On January 14, 2017, a design workshop was held and gave the public the opportunity to view proposed designs and share their feedback.

Updates to the Landing Skate Park include repairing or replacing concrete ramps and removing hazards, as well as the addition of several new exciting features. These new features include a pump hump and rainbow ledge, a volcano feature, a set of steps and several quarter pipes.

“Since 2002, the Chilliwack Landing Skate Park has served the community well,” said Mayor Sharon Gaetz. “These renovations will allow the Landing Skate Park to continue to inspire youth to engage in physical activity in a safe and challenging place for many years to come.”

The Landing Skate Park is one of three skate parks in the City of Chilliwack and offers a safe place off the street for youth of all skill levels to ride, scooter and skate. While the community enjoyed 15 years in the existing facility, oversubscription to the park quickened its deterioration, making it a priority to update the park.

“Whether you’re doing a heel flip or a nose grind on a table top, it’s important to remember that skate parks like this bring communities together,” said the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada. “I want to congratulate the City of Chilliwack for their hard work in renovating this skate park, which will serve the community and keeps its residents shredding for many years to come.”
