2017 Fraser Valley Biennale Opens at The O’Connor Group Art Gallery On April 6, to May 13th. The Chilliwack Visual Artist Association is pleased to open an exciting group exhibition at The O’Connor Group Art Gallery in the Chilliwack Cultural Centre, 9201 Corbould St, Chilliwack. (Opening hours from 12 noon until 5 pm, Wednesday through Saturday). We were very honoured to be invited to become one of the host art galleries for the Biennale for the first time since its inauguration in 2011. The 2017 Fraser Valley Biennale is an impressive survey of some of the most exceptional works of art produced by artists in the Fraser Valley region over the past two years. It began in 2011 as a partnership between The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford and arts councils from around the region. The Biennale celebrates the artistic accomplishments of the region, expands the public’s knowledge of the artists working locally, and nurtures the growth of the artist community in the Fraser Valley. Come out and join the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association as they open another extraordinary exhibition at the O’Connor Group Art Gallery. The Opening Reception takes place at 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, 8th April and members of the public are welcome to join in the celebration of the artists presented in this noteworthy exhibition. The following artists have been chosen to represent the Biennale in Chilliwack. Make your mark on Canada’s history with the Canada 150 Mosaic! Painting sessions will be held throughout the day on April 27 and 28, 2017 at the Landing Sports Centre - Loft Area (45530 Spadina Avenue) with the grand unveiling of the finished mural on July 1, 2017 as part of the city-wide Canada Day celebrations. Painting sessions on Thursday, April 27 will be held: 9:00am to 10:00am 10:30am to 11:30am 12:00pm to 1:00pm 1:30pm to 2:30pm 3:00pm to 4:00pm. All supplies, including paint, brushes, and individual 4” by 4” aluminum primer-coated panels will be provided. All ages and skills levels are welcome. Hosted in collaboration with the City of Chilliwack, Chilliwack Community Arts Council, and the Mural Mosaic team, this large scale community project in honour of Canada’s sesquicentennial creates a unique opportunity for Chilliwack residents to express their patriotism through the painting of art tiles. Once the paint dries, the talented team from Mural Mosaic will find each tile’s unique place in the overall mural design specially created for Chilliwack’s portion of the commemorative national mosaic. Join the Fraser Valley Conservancy and Wilderness Committee for a screening of the uplifting and motivating wildlife film, "Toad People" at 7:00 p.m. in the theatre at GW Graham School. GW Graham's theatre is wheelchair accessible. "Toad People" is a 75 minute inspiring new documentary produced by the Wilderness Committee about people in communities across British Columbia who are taking action to save the wildlife in their backyards. This film is about more than just toads. British Columbians know that we have remarkable wildlife – including killer whales, grizzly bears, barn owls and badgers.

Make your mark on Canada’s history with the Canada 150 Mosaic! Painting sessions will be held throughout the day on April 27 and 28, 2017 at the Landing Sports Centre - Loft Area (45530 Spadina Avenue) with the grand unveiling of the finished mural on July 1, 2017 as part of the city-wide Canada Day celebrations. Painting times on Friday, April 28 include: 9:00am to 10:00am 10:30am to 11:30am 12:00pm to 1:00pm 1:30pm to 2:30pm 3:00pm to 4:00pm 4:30pm to 5:30pm. All supplies, including paint, brushes, and individual 4” by 4” aluminum primer-coated panels will be provided. All ages and skills levels are welcome. Hosted in collaboration with the City of Chilliwack, Chilliwack Community Arts Council, and the Mural Mosaic team, this large scale community project in honour of Canada’s sesquicentennial creates a unique opportunity for Chilliwack residents to express their patriotism through the painting of art tiles. Once the paint dries, the talented team from Mural Mosaic will find each tile’s unique place in the overall mural design specially created for Chilliwack’s portion of the commemorative national mosaic. This class accommodates a wide range of experience levels from beginner to students that have practiced for a long period of time.
